Philip Island

Circuit Located at:
Back Beach Road, PHILLIP ISLAND, Victoria

Phillip Island Circuit was opened in 1956 although racing had taken place here previously on a 10.6 km dusty rectangle of a circuit, which is still in existence today as public roads. The circuit was dreamed up in 1951, and the first Grand Opening Meeting was held in December 1956. Many famous Australian motorcyclists have raced here over the years including such greats as Wayne Gardner, Michael Doohan, Peter Goddard, Michael Dowson, Rob Phillis, Kevin Magee, Anthony Gobert, Troy Corser and Troy Bayliss. The circuit hosts the most prestigeous motorcylce races to this day including rounds of the MotoGP and World Superbike Championships, as well as the ever popular Australian V8 Supercars. There is also a kart track which is a small scale replica of the GP circuit. Phillip Island is also right by the coast, and boasts spectacular views of the sea. The undulating nature of the circuit means that there are great views of the action from all around the circuit.
